PTE Test Format
- PTE is a three-hour test that assesses your ability to use English in a range of academic and professional contexts. The PTE Academic format is designed for people who want to study at an English-speaking university or college or find work in an English-speaking country.
- PTE assesses your ability to use English in reading, writing, and speaking tasks.
- You can complete the test at a Pearson Test of English center, or online through an Internet-based testing (IBT) service.
- If you choose to take PTE Academic at a Pearson Test of English center, the center will charge an administration fee for taking the test and give you your results on the same day.
- It consists of four parts: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The Listening Part is 20 minutes long. You will be given an audio recording of natural speech and you have to answer questions about it.
- The Speaking part lasts for 20 minutes and requires you to talk about a range of topics in an academic setting or describe yourself and your interests in English to an employer or university admissions officer.
- You need to complete one task from each of the following categories:

The PTE syllabus consists of 4 modules i.e Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
PTE Advanced is the most challenging test in PTE. It assesses your ability to communicate spontaneously and effectively with a high degree of fluency and confidence. It captures your ability to use the academic language according to the level of expertise expected by an institution or by professionals in the industry. The test lasts for 120 minutes, during which you will have to respond to six speaking tasks and three writing tasks.

PTE Score & Ranking
- The PTE test includes several subtests, and your results are combined to give you an overall score. Your score is then compared with those of other students in the same year group, who have taken the same test on the same day (or within two weeks), to determine your ranking.
- The Pearson Test of English (PTE) score is based on the number of correct answers to each task. The higher your score, the better you’ve done. To obtain a PTE score, simply add up all four scores from each section (Writing; Reading Comprehension; Listening; and Speaking) and multiply by two.
- The PTE score is a number between 0 and 120, which indicates your level of English proficiency. The higher the score, the better your English skills are. You can get a rank as well, which indicates how well you scored compared to other students around the world who took the same test at the same time.
- The PTE test results are declared within 48 hours of attending the test and the score ranges from 10-90 points with 10 being the lowest with an increment of 1 point and 90 being the highest.
- The PTE Academic score of 85-90 is equivalent to grading C2 in (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) CEFR and an IELTS band score of 9.
- The Academic score of 76-84 is equivalent to a grading of C1 in (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) CEFR and an IELTS band score of 7-8. This can specifically be used for skilled migration visas in Australia.
- The Academic score of 59-75 is equivalent to a grading of B2 in (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) CEFR and an IELTS band score of 5.5 -6.5. This level of scoring is applicable for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies including employment and skilled migration visas in Australia.
- The Academic score of 43-58 is equivalent to grading B1 in (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) CEFR and an IELTS band score of 4-5. This level of scoring can be used for undergraduate studies.
- The Academic score of 30-42 is equivalent to grading A2 in (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) CEFR. This level of scoring is usually too low to be considered by universities.
- The Academic score of 10-29 is equivalent to grading of A1 in (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) CEFR. This level of scoring is usually too low to be considered by universities.

- For example, if you got a 120 on the speaking section, you scored higher than 97% of other students who took this test at the same time.

Eligibility criteria for PTE
The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is intended for those who want to study or work in English-speaking countries, such as the USA and UK.
- Minimum age: 16 years. Parent consent required: 16 – 18 years.
- Maximum age: No limit mentioned.
- To attend the test you must have an English language proficiency test certificate or a document from your educational institution which will confirm your level of English.
- To be eligible for the online test, you must have either completed at least 60 credits from an accredited degree-granting institution or be currently enrolled in one and have at least one semester remaining. You must also have completed at least two years of full-time education in English or a minimum of four semesters of full-time study in an English-speaking country.
