LSAT Test Format

READING COMPREHENSIONS :
- On the LSAT, you will have 35 minutes to read and answer questions about passages that are between 200 and 250 words long. The passages cover a wide range of subjects, including science, history, economics, literature, and current events. You will be asked to identify what an author’s main idea is; determine why an author uses specific evidence; determine whether the evidence supports or weakens an argument; recognize logical flaws in arguments presented by authors; and/or explain how a particular statement in a passage fits into the overall discussion at hand.
ESSAY :
- You will be given an argument and you must write a well-organized essay, using examples to support your position. The prompt will ask you to consider the problem presented by the argument and then explain why one side of the issue is better than another. You have 30 minutes to complete this section.

- The LSAT score chart is a representation of the number of questions you answered correctly in each section and the total number of questions in each section.

LSAT syllabus
The LSAT consists of 5 major sections ie. Analytical reasoning, logical reasoning 1 and 2, and reading comprehension.
Analytical Reasoning
The section is based on the structure of relationships with logical conclusions, relationships based on things, persons, or events, statements and conclusions, and some legal statements and relationships based on problems
Logical Reasoning 1 & 2
The sections assess candidates’ ability to analyze, critically evaluate, and complete arguments through logical reasoning questions based on passages (comprehension or legal).
The type of questions will be statement-conclusions, reasoning by analogy, determining how additional evidence affects an argument, applying principles or rules, and identifying argument flaws.
Reading Comprehension
The section carries questions to assess candidates’ reading and interpretation skills based on four sets of reading questions, each consisting of a selection of reading material, followed by four to nine questions that test reading and reasoning abilities.
Eligibility criteria for LSAT
The LSAT is offered four times a year at testing centers around the world. The test dates are usually set six months in advance, and you must register for the exam well before it occurs.
- You can take the LSAT only once per admission cycle, with some exceptions (for example, if you have a documented disability that prevents you from taking the exam on its scheduled date).
- To be eligible to sit for the LSAT, you must be at least 18 years old on or before the test date.
- You must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the United States to take the LSAT and be admitted to law school in this country.
- To register for the test, you must pay the fee at least 3 days before the test date or 4 business days if paying with a check or credit card. You may pay online at www.lsac.org/jd/lsat/registration.

It costs $200 to take the LSAT and receive one free score report. In addition, subscription to the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) is required for application for most law schools. There’s no way around it: the LSAT is a hard test. It’s not a content-based exam so much as it is a skills-based exam, and the specific skills it tests just aren’t taught in most undergraduate programs.
